I've put a deposit on a Leon cupra k1,

Great spec auto everything, xenon s, sat nav etc, fsh low miles, pretty much a no brainer. I did want a white one off the classifieds on this forum, that's how I found you but decided against it.

That's the introduction done, now onto mods

I have some heko wind deflectors in my office, and I've ordered my bits for my custom made intake,

One thing for sure tuning the 2.0tfsi engine is expensive. Intakes, exhausts costing stupid money not to mention the costs of the remaps, esp when a lot of them are generic!!!

So I'm building my own intake, ill update this as bits arrive, I'm also contemplating a 3" downpipe decat, and maybe deleting the rear back box, dependant on sound, then It will be off to the rollers for a custom remap, followed by on the road final tweaks,

Jake

Ps not actually got the car lol

Well finally got the car, booked the train down to Nottingham while in Spain on holiday lol, also left a £100 deposit via paypal, so was a bit of a gamble, but you can tell a clean car when you see it.

Nearly missed the train down lol that was fun, but got a Starbucks on the train so it made it up, was a great choice as it made the drive back much easier/better

The car itself is mint, needs a good clean and machine polish but that's something I always do,

It has everything, fsh, low miles, satnav, dual climate control, adaptive xenons, auto lights, auto wipers, auto dimming mirror, it really is high spec, we activated a few more features with vagcom when I got back, like the coming home lights, and the single button boot pop ready for the boot mod.

Drive wise the suspension tight. Clutch is nice, very good power delivery, bit take but pulls well in fifth gear etc, we got around 30mpg coming back, so not bad,  needs a remap though,

Got a jacking point missing but that's going to be posted on

Finally pics

Cupra k1 deep clean

Hey guy’s its new car time, and as always I was egar to get in there and get the car clean

Tbf to the previous owner it wasn’t terrible, you could tell it’s a genuine car.

So first things first,

The dirty pics, the usual stuff –

Mouldy bonnet insulation, leaves under the hood, crud in the nicks etc

So it was on with a very diluted autoglym cleaner and soft brush to get in all the nicks, followed by washing the car in autoglym tfr again diluted, wheels done with autoglym wheel cleaner then a soapy was off for the hell of it,

Car was then dried off and brought inside, I couldn’t use my trust ramp this time, as get this! Some one was actually using it for productive work!!! Not messing like me 

Masked up to hide the cracks and protect the rubbers, I also too this point prior to install my heko wind deflector. Sorry I don’t have any blue tape, im either not scene enough or too cheap ;)

Car wasn’t in terrible condition tbh so didn’t need a huge amount of work, just a few bits marred in places,

Products used were

3m fast cut plus
3m fine compound
3m ultrafine
Various pads
autoglym hd wax
autoglym glass cleaner
autoglym rubber dressing
autoglym tyre shine

this gave us these results

as I always say, spending time like this on your car, helps you get to find all the little bits, I now know I need dent master on two panels, and a few touch ups of chips, but all in all very happy with its condition

how to make your own 90mm custom intake

before I even got the k1 I had been looking at the tuning aspect, and realising these cars are bloody expensive, im not the type to pay £400 for an intake, no matter how nice it looks,

so heres your shopping list:

1x70>90mm silicone hose
2x90mm 90degree silicone hoses
1xmetre 90mm alloy pipe
5x80>100 jubilee clips
1x60>80 jubilee clips
Metal rod
Air filter of choice

Tools:
Air saw
Dremel/air grinder
Sanding wheel

Heres how to do it:

The scary bit is cutting your engine cover, once you have this in hand you’ll see how and were to cut, you basically need the maf pipe, don’t forget take the maf sensor out before doing any cutting as they are fragile!!!! You have been warned

You want to get the oval maf pipe to the stage were the coupler fits on,

Next you need a piece of alloy pipe 10.5” long, fit this into the coupler and then onto one of the elbows,

The next pipe is 6.5” long and has the other elbow and filter on it (I chose a ramair filter which can flow over 400bhp)

I then made a couple of brackets out of the steel bar, to hold everything in place, and cut my engine cover to suit,

Heres how it all looks now

if i won the lottery maybe chris haha

got the car on the ramp at dinner to have a look at the caliper, it was seized, very seized :(

exchange unit ordered with pads :)

caliper taken off and cleaned the area, here you can see my tricky dent

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7445%2F9785388765_6f1c381ee8.jpg&hash=9d3d89d3bdf17759e6f3c1e43f1164bc96ba05f6) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/9785388765/)
IMAG0162 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/9785388765/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

this shows you how hot the caliper has been, the paint is destroyed, the rest of the calipers look like new

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7402%2F9785391735_8ac2dfc370.jpg&hash=2267d8501df39d9a10696b5ca5f22fa9415d62fa) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/9785391735/)
IMAG0165 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/9785391735/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

Good job on filter set up. How much did intake cost in end?

I can feel a tiny bit of difference, feels a bit freer top end,  the total intake cost £112.00 with trade discount lol so not bad, it sounds like a dyson, totally different to the sound of say a leon cupra r

One thing I've noticed is I just get a normal dv whoosh were a lot of golfs I've heard have the compressor stall sound, maybe I need a revised dv not sure,

I've ordered the jacking point and the fuel cam thing for tomorrow,

Next choice is springs or coilovers.

yeah been looking at so many pics over on scn re the sportlines, but decided on the coils, there both going to ride simular tbh, went for the joms on the recommendation the ride a little better, as the arb wont be getting changed im not too worried about that,

tried this today, and kind of failed,

the strut has to fix into the ball but its on too much of an angle for this to work so i modified the way its works and went the oem solution

i still used the plates, 20x50mm, welded the nut on the back,

how ever i went through the hinge

heres the hole

Exhaust was done by a local exhaust firm but after getting it on the ramp they won't be getting any recommendations. It looks like a rat's been at it and welded by a blind man.

In two minds to take it off n stick it through thier windows. I'll prob wrap it so it looks a bit more professional.

Wheels were off a local firm who did me a good deal.

I'm hoping the sus will drop as I'm not too impressed at the mo.

In other news. Some reverse camera badge stuffs arrived

Joms are massively hit and miss. They might settle down but I wouldn't expect 2" of settling.

On the exhuast front go back and threaten trading standards and get some
Money back as by the sounds of it they are jockys!!.....

Changed the dv today to the revised g version. Tbh the c was immaculate so perhaps a waste of £30. Time will tell. Car feels no different haha

Wheels are due in Monday, I'm then going to paint them in a custom anthracite/xirrilic mix.

I will need rear camber, luckily I have a hunter so can set it up haha

More work continues on the reverse camera badge, I now have all my bits bar camera due to a cockup at hids4u.

This will be one cool mod

Will be worth it in the long run Jake the C would have split most likely in a few months.
For the sake of mind I will be changing to rev G once a year. It's £40 and half an hour of fiddling to fit so, just incorporate that into the servicing costs :)

Looking forwards to seeing wheels on.

Just need a few little bits that I got today and some wiring and she's good to go.

Wrong camera was sent so that should be here Monday also, then it's a case of wiring it to the factory rns510 via an adaptor.

As far as I'm aware there's no coding. Just swap one pin around.

Post by: cuprajake on October 01, 2013, 08:38:16 pm
Sorry,

Replied on my phone this morning and it didn't show you quoted the badge, I thought you meant the climate control

Yes you do need to code the rns510, it's just to tell it there's a reverse camera

The universal camera goes through an interface then into the unit,

It's not complete bar the camera which hids4u have cocked up twice, still waiting for the third attempt to arrive!!!!

I have an electronics genius next door, and he's made me a unit, that will take a reverse feed, then operate the servo, in the meantime it also trips a relay to cut power to the micro switch so the boot doesn't open, so the handle can open more, the power is cut after the handle shuts as the relay has a timed delay in it, so the boot doesn't get accidentally tripped.

I've also ordered a genlabs drl control unit which will drop my drls to 50% brightness, well it will when all the parts arrive for that haha

Final thing is the wheels, they still haven't arrived either, which is annoying, the custom xirrilic colour has been mixed since Monday lol
Title: Re: yellow k1-new wheels ordered

The thinking behind it is that the bolt can come loose as the paint breaks away. Never had an issue with either way and I have had both clean and painted bolt holes

I also painted the dash pieces so they matched. I atually used the rest of the wheel colour then a Matt clear on top. Turns out it's practically identical to before lol oh well atleast it's all matching and looking new

Well today I started to wire my av interface.

I bought the wrong one so had to change both the plug and the pin out. It's been a nightmare

I tested it with one of the two wrong cameras that hids4u sent me while I waited for the correct camera to arrive.

Here it is

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fy192%2Fcuprajake%2FIMAG0334_zps5f6fcc1c.jpg&hash=5ac126d4b76a18e4e18a9ac20c5a4340a725eb53)

Then the little camera turned up and it doesn't have the parking lines but stuff it. I'm not sending it back.

So now it works I can run the cables correctly

New car looks fantastic - great details on these Leons from the factory (love the hidden rear door handles).

Fitted the footwell led lights today. Really easy to do and pretty cool too

Next job was to sort tbs winter wheels out for the tyres which came today.

I thought to myself, with winter being so mucky what colour can I get away with not cleaning n just leaving for a while. I'm sure you'll agree this is perfect for hiding the dirt.

Also thinking of buying my summer tyres now. Seen as I I have jinu things fitted now. Or sh*te as it's translated in English

Michelin pilot 3

Eagle f1

Vred ultrasecca

Today I realised a btcc spoiler, no matter how much you trim it won't fit a face lift tailgate, so expensive test but it would of been unique,

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fy192%2Fcuprajake%2FIMAG0416_zps7cab8086.jpg&hash=a6068a7064f94e1c11204a55c528fe8b5c4f38de)

So quick call to seat and ordered a propper one

So after work I stuck the tailgate into the booth for colour

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fy192%2Fcuprajake%2FIMAG0407_zps192f92c0.jpg&hash=883d1ee0a20cdd99f4454342ebba3048cdc54adf)

Also painted one of my mirror caps as that was scuffed

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fy192%2Fcuprajake%2FIMAG0415_zpsb480c791.jpg&hash=c1793aef4555aa290f7fd7e2ff04ce5cd27971f4)

I've ordered a new high level brake light as there different, I bagged two rear lights off ebay for £40 as well, then for new yr I'm going led,

I'm thinking gloss black for the spoiler and maybe a dewiper on the hatch, but that's only if my motor doesn't fit lol

managed to get the tailgate 90% fitted today,

for anyone wanting to do it, some bits are different

firstly the wiring loom works all the parts on the fl tailgate, how ever the upper brake light wire needs extending as they changed the location of the plug, speaking of the light that has to be new too and there £30

next the mount for the gas strut is different aswell it must be shorter, so i need to order that.

i currently dont know if the rear panel fits either lol,

im kinda stuck now till i get bits, so final adjustment will be done when they all arrive, the o/s isnt flush yet but the n/s is

here are some pics:

how to make your own 90mm custom intake

before I even got the k1 I had been looking at the tuning aspect, and realising these cars are bloody expensive, im not the type to pay £400 for an intake, no matter how nice it looks,

so heres your shopping list:

:)

i got to use a £200 a tub wax today, 80% carnuba wax, and well what a pile of pants, ive never used such a hard wax to remove, in the end i had to coat it with my hd wax to remove the stuff, so lesson learnt, stick to what you know.

heres a beading pic anyway

also my car came with uprated aftermarket speakers, i though it sounded pretty poor tbh, then saw a thread about cutting the adaptor wires, so i did this and its still crap, then when messing about with the fader i noticed the rears sounded better, quick change round of door speakers and its back to quality listening now yeah...

Did a couple things today. Firstly I took the exhaust off and then Re fitted the original minus the centre box. Tbh it's pretty quiet now but I may decat it for noise.

I've took pics of the horror that was done when it was made I'll stick them up in a bit.

Secondly my boot pop parts came in, the scirroco bumpers and the Davis struts but the struts must of changed as there about 5" short.

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

Here's a vid of it in action.

I used a guide off here, but the struts have been superseded or something,

There both rated 600nm were the oem ones are 380nm so it's stupid stiff, the guide part numbers are wrong, so for anyone doing it don't get the fabia struts, tomorrow I'm going sourcing correct struts that are about 450-500 and the correct length, then ill give the info

The bumpers are about £6 and the struts £15 ish. That's all then it's a case of vagcom coding,

Here's the sh*te that was made by a so called reputable exhaust company.

It was made and fitted by a local company.

I saw it a bit back. But the mounts they made the exhaust would wobble. So I had enough and took it off.

I'm a welder by trade and that is absolute sh*t !! In fact I don't even think that counts as a weld/s lol the bends are shocking also ! As them for a refund !! A weld should always be as strong as the two parent metals it's joining together in this case pieces of stainless pipe - a weld especially on pipe work should totally seal the gas or liquid it's conveying in this case exhaust gas

As you can see the welds aren't fused and one of them has gaps in it that's been leaking exhaust gases ,those bends are the worst I've ever seen !! So restrictive

I've got two minds to throw it through their window.

Moving on.

Today I gave the car a full hunter alignment and it was well out at opsing corners.

After that the winter wheels went on and the white really suits.

Then finally I took the wind deflecotrs off as I think they were causing water misting inside.

After that I treated myself to some led rear lights off seat :)

Decided to fit puddle lights to my mirrors.

No mean feet.

Basically the door cards are a complete pain in the arse. The full window mech is fitted to the back of the card, so before I started I checked that I could code the module with vagcom. The checks were good so I stripped the doors down and ran wires then added the pin and coded the lights.

Pics are poo but you get the idea. The lights come on upon unlocking and stay on longer than the coming hone lights. They also active when the doors are opened.

Drove the car home.

The bush seems to have stiffened the steering ever so slightly no real negative effects. Does feel a little more sharp on turn in but nothing mind blowing

The pcv seems to have given the carbs little bit more mpg from what i can tell but Tbh the right foot was down a bit to test the bush.

I've now ordered a super pro dog bone bush too

Air was prob one of the best mods I've done to previous cars, I'm only going this route as I have lucked out on 50% of the setup for less than 200. I'm hoping the full setup costs no more than 600.

I'm really happy with this car. I know I say it all the time usually it's outside factors that make me change.

Jake.

With it being a budget build and trying to keep it sub £600, I'm having to search for stuff

I've ordered all the parts for the control box now. So if they come before Christmas I'll make that.

Still to get though

Rear bags
Tank
Compressor
Pressure switch
Fuses and relay
Wood
Rebuild kit

So I'm half way there lol.

I want to be methodical this time run all the wires so it looks as factory as poss

Well today saw the real start of the build,

id ordered a few bits off ebay, but todays spend was propper

accuair 3 gallon tank
110-145psi pressure switch
viair 380c compressor
air lift rar bags and brackets
two front strut rebuild kits

so with that little lot ordered i built the housing part of it

heres the main base and how it will sit in the wheel well

Those valves look similar to the ones I used when I started my build on the corsa. They didn't seem to work for me unfortunately. They kept sticking shut and even after taking them apart they still wouldn't work. Hopefully you have better luck than me mate :)

Just a small update. I've still not got the pressure switch so I'm stuck.

Today I quickly fit the blanks to the tank asw ell as the outlet and as a make shift fit a gauge on there where the switch goes.

I wanted to leak test the tank. So far so good. Pressure has held at 100psi for the last three hours. I'll see what it's like in the morning.

I've also Ordered an accuair speed switch as a controller instead of the switch box I made. Purely as I had birthday and Christmas money haha.

had a change of heart with the controller, main reason being the wire has to go through the door but the leon uses the full lock block, no where for the wire to go

it would mean taking the door off, drilling a hole for the cable etc so i decided on a new location

(https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2815/11869726063_e8e70cf569.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/11869726063/)

its the cup holder section under the mdf2

so i made a bracket, primed and painted

this is the bracket in situe, i used foam tape under the bracket then bolted down, this wat we get no vibration. the steel is about 5mm thick lol

well due to the spiraling cost of the air build,

sticky valves that needed replacing ( they were foc - so cant complain)
blown bag, which i didnt know

i needed a valve setup, so went accuair, at the moment i just can afford £450 so went for the cheaper vu2 manifold, it means for the time being im setting up 2 way, but i can add another once i have the funds to go 4 way, im still running four lines to the bags....

heres how im at right now

How's the red eddy

Forgot to say I took the Decat Down pipe off, as the car wasn't mapped for it I lost a chunk of low down torque which I wanted back.

With the stock downpipe back on the torque is back.

Really happy I also spent £400 on winter tyres after the warnings of the worst winter for years,!!! Cheers met office

Sorry.

Yeah boot panel off. Undo the bolts n plug.

Then remove handle.

It has a rod through it with a spring. Push that out and then split the chrome.

Then prime n paint.

Give the car a good clean inside and out today, winter months really do take there toll on cars,

Once the air is fitted I'm planning on hitting the car hard.

The few chips it does have, keep getting blobbed in and built up with 2k paint, once they are proud they will be denibbed and then polished to become invisible,

This time as part of the polishing procees I'm using a new product,

It was introduced to us via 3m while we were polishing this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7419%2F12074860395_f56cdd6004.jpg&hash=24d41a07c007227138e0a1cb99b5d586d8d05f1d) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12074860395/)

Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12075156613/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

The product is this,

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.staticflickr.com%2F3772%2F12075237303_9a098b8dfd.jpg&hash=2c313feebc6a3973a7d760bf2edaae5a5db4be99) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12075237303/)

3m 6000 trizact, there a polishing abrasive impregnated disc, they have the 3000 too we have used that for a long time, then the rep brought these in...the difference is immense. They cut so fine it makes polishing a breeze they also take out 95% of all marks.

So the plan is once the cars been chemically stripped, a good clay followed by tar and glue under all the arches and sill, ill mask the car then hit it with a few new discs to really get the best possible finish.

Jake can you sort me out with one of those discs with a hook and loop backing plate for my DAS 6 Pro?

Ive finally had the bloody tyres taken off my Mercs stripping them down and will have them blasted and hopefully shipped up by end of next week

Car looks great with the front plate mods... shows what a lot of work you've done in a short time, nice one.

well,

yesterday i touched all my chips in with 2k paint, today i decided to denib them with 2000 paper,

then i decided i may aswell do the lot,

so test panel for smoothing out the orange peel was the wing,

first i cleaned it and then blocked followed by had flatted with wet 2000 paper.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7444%2F12104912976_c19f6104c0.jpg&hash=40ac0217861252b3a66e2145012d2f7b01ba36e3) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104912976/)
IMAG1158 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104912976/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

after that i wiped down and hit it with 3000 trizact on a da, followed by a 6000 trizact on da

this gives a semi gloss finish

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7298%2F12104630534_08b14952e8.jpg&hash=3cec8b1ea10133be0495da8b8c10d126517f491f) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104630534/)
IMAG1159 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104630534/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

after that its the usual 3m fast cut process and a wax, this gives a really good refined and smooth finish

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.staticflickr.com%2F5506%2F12104543853_786094de09.jpg&hash=3d95d8d15eb48232f4cd0bf727492c91bb4b2106) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104543853/)
IMAG1162 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12104543853/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

so into the car, same process cleaned, degreased, de tared etc

the car was blocked with 2000 wet, then washed
hand flatted with 2000 wet , then washed
3000 trizact with da , then washed
6000 trizact with da, then finally washed

i went over the full car giving me this.....

Started the polishing process today, just the bonnet.

Polishing process is as follows.

3m fast cut using Indasa yellow pad, these don't breakdown as fast as the 3m green, then i prekleen the paint and after that I use the soft 3m yellow pad and yellow top ultra fine polish, the last step it's blue ultrafina on its pad,  final part is to clean the panel and give it a coat of wax.

The result

While its not removed all the orange peel, it has considerably flattened the surface.

I took it a step further, I actually wet sanded the clear down removing the Orange peel effect in the paint.

The discs will remove a lot of imperfections, but not the actual finish of the paint.

I've just finished now, and the cars come out really well.

Numpty here forgot his dslr so only have a couple of pics off my phone. So hard to get any quality images really.

Pics

So in total I had.

5hrs colour sanding and trizact
10hrs machine polishing.

Quite a long process but well worth the effort.

The armrest an easy fitment? Really finishes off the centre console, may do it to the g/f's FR.

The arm rest is brutally crude. It attaches with 5 self tapping screws through the bottom. This means if you take it out the centre console is ruined.

Decided today as I never refitted the reverse camera to the tailgate to change the pin out so I could get audio as well as video.

Redid the pins and tested it all working well, then I've just been in my loft and found my old PlayStation2 so I can have DVD on there. Get in

Then I'm not sure about getting these

Like the mk5 ones but it means I'd have to cut my door panels. So massive job with potentially big cost.

Bought myself a steam cleaner for the car, er mean house ;)

Used it as my seats looked a bit tarnished even once wet vac'd

Really impressed with it. Seats look a lot better, also did all the seals n dash etc come out really well

One negitive is I've lost my jacking cover again, going to buy the bloody steamer

That's quality - that is a 90's Honda Prelude look with exhaust tips that small!

Still loving this build Jake - which steam cleaner did you go for? Still need to get round to firing up the one I bought on my ED30's interior...

Just a vac one. Around £100 but it's done a really good job.

Exhaust was a joke. For some reason the server swap has lost about 10 of my last posts.

I did run a straight through exhaust but it was raspy, loud and out right Barry boy nova style. So the Oe one is back on and I'm deciding what to do.
Title: Re: yellow k1 - Air ride
Post by: cuprajake on February 11, 2014, 10:39:47 pm
Today, after the fail of the exhaust I decided to do this,

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7364/12464215453_f0402aca8c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464215453/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464215453/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

You can see the perforated holes, all four pipes have these, I've already covered the lower two, with half a piece of pipe,

This is all the fibreglass stuffing. Enough for two bin bags,

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3786/12464554744_4fb95fc618.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464554744/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464554744/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

Here's the pipes all covered

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7408/12464206133_0f9a1a1e30.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464206133/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/12464206133/) by cuprajake1 (http://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

We did weld all the edges before putting half the stuffing back in and welding shut,

The idea of this is.  The perforated holes make the exhaust quieter and slow down the gases, by blocking off half these holes I've made the car louder and still kept away form any raspy-ness....

I can still open the other side and block the rest of the holes should I want more noise,

But tbh I'm happy with the sound, very oem just a bit deeper.

Here's a very pants vid.

Really doesnt represent the sound

Jake

Bought one of these to replace the tyrepal, it was a great idea but in reality flawed in its design,

As soon as you start driving, the alarm would go off no matter how you set it up, so the above gauge will be perfect.

Gorgeous car!

Black diffuser needed to match the front end with the black grill and triple R splitter.

No air sold with 3hrs of listing it.

2 eagle f1 ordered off camskill. There only £90 each at the moment. The wheels will be going back on,

Now it's just a case of enjoy it, service reminder came on today so ill do that next week, then a case of enjoy it,

May stick a screen in as there's a chip that has been repaired and then not sure.

Title: Re: yellow cupra k1, feeling the love again
Post by: cuprajake on March 04, 2014, 10:45:58 am
no,

basically im 100% happy with the cupra its in my top three cars ive owned,

what happened was a friend of mine, who has a rare impreza spec c import let me know it was coming up for sale for £13k, i said i could prob do 12K selling my car, wheels and air,

the more i did my research and talked to people, i realised it had been used in competition driving at ten of the best, it was running close to 500bhp, it was going back to standard for me, however with uk spec parts, ie wrong turbo, suspension, exhaust.

so no point in buying a car thats not what its supposed to be, so the cupra is getting any last little bits done i was putting off till summer.

speaking of which all you should thank me for putting my snow tyres on, weve had none lol!!!! :fighting:

Problem I've got is the back box has to come off to fit the diffuser, which will be chav tactic loud. I don't really want to cut the tip off the back box I have now,

Once it's on the ramp in the morning ill see what's what.

I've seen a piper system also,

I would of liked it to sit further up, then I could of blacked all the numberplate section, but it's never going to do that, so I'm happy having it lower,

I may yet black the centre ill see.

Once the diffuser is bonded on ill have to drive cat backless lol it's well loud,

I may do the top spoiler black to match undecided on that though.....

New screen fitted to replace the bullet holed one fitted,

Also reprinted the back bumper and tailgate, finally happy with the match,

Basically I had to do around 5 spray out cards all with the same shade, with varying coats and also removing a orange tinter, in the end it took a white ground coat then seven yellow coats lol

Where did you buy the screen? Mine needs a new screen but last time I got one the company used non genuine glass and it easily got scratched.

The local glass guy we use at work. It's Pilkington nap fingers crossed it's ok. I have the rain sensor so it was more expensive lol.

May I ask how much? I've retro fitted the auto dimming mirror so could potentially get the screen with the sensor and retro fit the required bits to make it work.
Title: Re: yellow cupra k1, cupra r diffuser ????
Post by: cuprajake on March 22, 2014, 07:47:29 am
The glass was £140plus vat. But that's a trade price, then there's fitting on top.

You get the sensor bracket on the glass but you need the jelly piece that sticks to the glass this is about £15 from seat.

The glass is fault less no imperfections or wobbles in it.

With the car having a new screen I decided to seal all the glass with a product called gtechnik or something. Tbh smells just like rain x but dearer, meant to last over 12months though so well see.

I was going to machine polish n wax the car but decided not to bother as I was on the minutes and it started to snow hahaha

Next week all the suspension components will be don't then I'm hoping the tiny rattle I have will go. Failing that it's a new wheel bearing.

bonnet pre cleaned and then split in three

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3788/13425598003_ee835ae745.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/msnGxD)

left to right, purple haze/ hd wax /blue velvet

then these turned up for the suspension, front wishbone bushes

Then painted them the same colour as the wheels, the clear will matt down as it cures, then cupra decals going on.

Only difference is the colour of the wax

Well looks like I may be rejoining the subaru community,

Hindsight is a great thing, I really wish I had forged my white spec d when I had the hg done, at the time it would of meant sticking it all on the credit card, but after the hg was done I never felt confident in the car , nothing wrong but when you fall out of love with a car, any noise you hear you fear the worse,

So I'd advertised the leon on a few sites. Got the usual messers, but I'm looking now in a deal with a 40k 2005 sti widetrack in crystal grey,

Needs a few tweaks, but has potential, ill keep those interested posted.

Well guys,

Back again in another impreza,

The k1 was stunning, quick, fully loaded. But I really missed my Subaru.

I thought this time buy white, so I don't have to do it.

Rough spec,

2003 (53) spec c limited,
Has some creature comforts, electric Windows and air conditioning.

35k with extensive service history.

The interior is mint, as is the mechanical.

The body needs addressing but that's my job,

Plans are to make it oem goodness.

Like I say it needs my touch to get it to the level and standard I'm happy with,

One thing though, did think it would be quicker, it's only mapped for uk fuel. And is all oem engine wise bar a heywood and Scott de res section, app rr 312 bhp,

The k1 actually felt a lot faster.

I had a Sti type uk with a few bits on it god it felt slow compared to my ed30 don't get me wrong it was quick off the line but it drunk fuel chewed tyres and was not that good. I have driven evos and they are better but the noise the scooby makes was great but you need 400bhp in a scoob to give a tuned and sorted k04 mtr the heels the awd kills the power too much

So today my bumper arrived, I went for the facelift linea r

The bumper comes blank, so you have to cut the exhaust exit yourself.

Here it is all ready for paint,

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3860/15055176442_49e97b38df.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15055176442/)
IMAG2906 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15055176442/) by cuprajake1 (https://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

Now when doing a yellow, I always put a pure white ground coat down for coverage, sorry forgot pic

Here's the bumper done

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3890/15055175582_0282d84e08.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15055175582/)
IMAG2907 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15055175582/) by cuprajake1 (https://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3867/14868974767_510a8e3a9a.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/14868974767/)
IMAG2908 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/14868974767/) by cuprajake1 (https://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

So with the bumper painted I got on the phone to David at sere, ordered the matching front grilles, and then splashed out on the main linea r front grille,

I plan on blacking the outer edge like so

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5563/15056339422_9c11c1cb4f.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15056339422/)
image (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/15056339422/) by cuprajake1 (https://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

But gloss black,

I've decided to keep the facelift tailgate and led lights and flog the k1 tailgate and lights, and spoiler. I've also got a genuine brand new k1 badge if any one wants that,

After that, probably nearly due a service and mot, and may just treat it to some coil packs.

Also does anyone know good exhaust people local to Rochdale who can work with stainless steel?

It's already got a piper cat back which Tbh is very nice.

It's a push fit system like a bcs so the tail pipe section would come off. Just can't justify the cost for changing the tip.

I wanted a bcs off the group buy but they were about 1-2 month wait

Got a bit more done this Aft,

My grilles came in from David at sere, top service

So split the linea r front grille

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5574/14888311578_615e0cc76c.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/14888311578/)
IMAG2923 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cuprajake/14888311578/) by cuprajake1 (https://www.flickr.com/people/cuprajake/), on Flickr

Painted the surround gloss black, this is something I actually won't do for customers as I can't guarantee that it won't chip,

I'm going back to a chrome back badge too but so far can't find any facelift tailgate handles on ebay :(

I then turned my attention to the scuffed splitter and reprinted that

I also repaired the wheel that was caught,

After that I removed the rear bumper and fitted the new one, in the midst I cut off the twin pipes.

My thoughts exactly when I saw it, the pipe outlets are like 13mm, which I feel is too small, always thought it should be around 19mm so it's not restrictive,

Just have to chalk it up as another sh*te ebay experience, last week I bought a spoiler that turned out to be non genuine and fibreglass. Not getting my money back for that either. ,

Well a slight up date,

I keep thinking of selling and then not, I think as there's nothing a can do to it that wont cost a fortune, that I keep getting bored.

It's getting close to 60k now so still low miles for its age,

Did look at stage two but its stupid money, so guys what cheap mods can I do haha.

I may look at getting the internals cleaned as that's never been done,

Any suggestions for the north west?

Also think the wheels are due a refurb to a new colour again, suggestions

I may have a 3" BCS decat down pipe for a couple of hundred quid soon if that's a mod option to help toward stage 2/2+

Stage 2 is about £1k including mapping if you shop about.
Mate's Leon cupra paid like 550 for full exhaust (sports cat), had my old Evoms for free in exchange for some audio work, 350 for mapping at rtech.

its not just that though,

clutch and fly wheel £600 ish
fuel pump £250 - £500
down pipe decat £90 -£300
intercooler £150-£300
map £350

then fitting etc,

that's what puts me off

Stage 2 is only intake and exhaust.
Stage 2 plus is  fuel pump and cooler.
it depends how good your clutch is, some slip some don't. map it and if it slips, replace it. helix clutch is only about 700. i say only, is not that much really, and you can put it down to normal wear and tear maintenance anyway.
