Mk5 to Mk7 key conversion

Ok I know there’s a few threads on this but just wondering if anyone could confirm something.

If I buy I genuine Mk7 key, and then disassemble it and swap everything over from my mk5 key, will everything fit and will the key work without needing reprogramming?

Or do I have to buy an aftermarket eBay one?

I much prefer the genuine one with the gti logo on the bottom and the vw logo on the right rather than centre but I came across one person saying these aftermarket ones are specifically made for the mk5 bits to fit whereas the genuine Mk7 is different and won’t work.

Can’t help with the genuine mk7 fitment but I brought one of those fake mk7 keys on eBay and the quality was shocking so I sent it back for a refund.

Did you buy it without the blade and then swapped the key blade over or did you get them recut?

Looks like a nice upgrade.

Not been inside a Mk5 key, any problem moving the transponder chip over?
-on other models they are very glued in

Do they come with Logos for the rear?  If so how good are they?
-I had some off amazon that were so $hite I could pick the paint off with my finger nail.

My chip literally dropped off after opening the old key, they didnt come with logo you have to buy it separately. There wasnt any problem except the blade, I had to grind it little bit to get perfect fit. I bought everything from aliexpress :D

I did this a couple years ago. I too would have had to grind my original blade to fit the aliexpress one, so instead got the one from the new fob cut to fit my car. I also bought a genuine GTI lower part for the fob which was the most expensive part I of the whole swap. In the end I went back to using my other Mk5 key as I didn’t like the quality of the aliexpress one nor the size of it in my pocket as it is noticeably larger than the  Mk5 one.

Did this a couple of years ago, but I also bought the genuine GTI loop section (painted the embossed GTI logo red as originally black) and genuine VW badge

Thats great - is it just a case of swapping the blade and guts of the OEM key?
