oem rear clusters for gti, how many is there
« on: November 22, 2012, 09:18:38 pm »
this is a thread from a thread  :surprised:
after looking at diff rear clusters out there I have stupidly mistaken after market lights for oem ones and especially led strip mk6 ones on e-bay for oem  :stupid:
yeah I know,,,,
anyway I would like to clarify exactly what rear clusters out there ARE oem and will fit the mk5
as far as I am told no mk6 lights will fit the mk5 so only interested in mk5 oem ones
all I know so far is the following, would really help if any comments came with a pic so I can narrow it down
going onto a black gti
OEM ONLY PLEASE
r32 rears
ed30 rears

The R32 and ED 30 are one and the same.
You have a choice of 3 OEM
The Pinkie standars you have the dark red ED30/R32 and the LEDS as below

There are some variations for US spec cars and maybe other regions but i think  the only changes are they haven't got rear fog lights and little changes like that but all come in the usual flavours of normal, r32/ed30 and I think rear led was Europe only

I would go with what you like best, You can get the pinkies sprayed by a bodyshop to the exact shade as the R32 ones for little moniez.
You are a bit of a mad modder and starting down a path that i have seen many go down.
Rather than just buying every mod that takes your fancy sit down for an evening and come up with a final idea of what you want the car to be like. You can do this by looking at hundreds of pics and spending time reading and not buying.  :innocent:

This will save you hundreds in the long run as you will end up selling lots of your early mods.

so if there is 3 choices
pinky standard ones on most gti's
r32 / ed30 ( same ones ) on these cars
and the led ones
correct ?????
if so, what model did the led ones come on ? or where they optional extras on all models ?
def only 3 options on oem then,,, us as well ?

The LEDS were on European Golfs, thats why you have to swap the fogs.  :happy2:

Led ones were an optional extra for mainland Europe (VW uk didn't give us the option). Most people buy them from Germany then do the rear fog mod (swap the fog and reverse light over they are on opposite sides as they are made for Europe).

UK get 2 different OEM where as Europe got 3.

Edit: beat by TC lol

What do you want from your lighs, are you after changing your GTI clusters for looks or better light output?

Rear clusters on a R32 (same ones as Edition30 as well). On a black car for you.....

and LED rears..

I'm getting my LED units from here....

http://www.kunzmann.de/shop/en/tuning-styling-vw-golf-5-v-led-rear-lights-set-candy-red-for-vw-golf-5-v.htm

Have seen them from the same seller on eBay for cheaper but not selling any at the moment. Come up for sale on here every now and again.

As MC said above Kunzmann seem to be the place to get them.

TC gives some good advice of sitting down and deciding the route you want to go. Heres a couple of pics of mine with various lights and where I got inspiration from for my mods:

Standard lights

See this

And Robins

Then ended up with this

thanks for that, I understand now, silly me thinking there was about 8 diff oem clusters to choose from, thanks for that guys
going to go for the led ones same as you mc,
have you actually bought them yet ?
are you going to use the site on the link to get them as well,,,,, 341 euros,,,, I guess you have already searched about for prices.
will there be an import charge if we buy from there ?
I am assuming they will need to be opened and swapped over inside for the fogs etc ? also do they need coded by vcds do you know.
after that is it just plug and play with the install, I have heard that it is very easy to take the old ones out and replace, is this right buddy

No import charge as its from the european union, just 15euro postage if your getting them from Kunzmann.

And yes you would need to do the fog light swap or just take the red reflector out and use a coloured bulb for the fog.

They are plug and play but it is advisable to get someone with vcds to disable the bulb monitoring as this can cause the leds to flicker on start up and shorten the life of them and could cause premature failure of the units
