Took the GTI on a 40 mile round trip to one of our Remarketing sites today to discover why the comms room was losing power when the generator kicks in, and upon arrival had gotten 39.2mpg average for the journey. Same roads on the way back, and when i got here the average had topped out at 41.2mpg.

OMG. Im pretty astounded by that to be honest. If i cruised in a relaxed manner in our old Ibiza 1.4 16v Sport i could only just get 43-44mpg.

Admittedly i didnt use the loud pedal that much. So most the time the car was off boost (50mph road works on M6 too), but that is very good even for a 2.0 engine.

Has anyone else managed to nurse a GTI above 40mpg? Or is the temptation to plant the right foot too much?

I've had just over 40mpg out of the S3, not very often though :smiley:

Just filled mine up and just before I did it said  154miles on the trip from the last refill and 45 miles left in fuel. Once I topped up to the brim it said 190 miles on the range :surprised:

Must have been having fun! :evilgrin:

On a 55 litre tank (12.1gallon) that works out at..................

15.7mpg :scared: :scared: :driver: :rolleye:

Sorry for the threadjack Deako. :ashamed:

The most I've ever eaked out from a tank is an average of around 38mpg when I was on the APR stage 1 map.

The most I get from the Stage 2+ REVO is around 32mpg.

I managed 45mpg out of a Mk2 Golf running an ABF 2.0 16v. It was a peach too, running really nice power.

Ive had nearly 600 miles out of 2 full tanks. With mostly short journeys, so im not having enough fun in the car compared to a few of you.  :grin:

Managed to get 42ish  on a LONG stretch of road where 50mph was the order of the day.

Wasn't as boring as it sounds it would be either.

In my experience its a very jekyl and hyde engine, very frugal when cruising but equally thirsty when you press go.  On balance its pretty good for what it is and I'm glad I've got the flexibility to go either way.

Was driving like a nun the other day and was getting around 41MPG. Couldnt believe it. Used to get around 4MPG in the impreza! Thank god i had a company car back then!! But 497bhp was so much fun  :driver: :jumping:
