Breaking -expert advise needed

Good evening all, can you help.

I have just replaced all my pads and discs, done this about 5 days ago. I do appreciate you need to give it time to bed in, but do need some assistanc.

Fronts are easy, all done. The rears I got a wind back tool replaced pads - job done and really happy wit myself.

HOWEVER.......the pedal is responsive, and firm, but when I hold the pedal (firmly) the pedal is going down slowly. So I have pressure but pedals dropping slowly. I have checked to see if anything s leaking......nothing.

Anyone help please??

I assume you're doing this with the engine running? Have you tried pumping it with the engine off to see if the pedal firms up? I'd say what you're experiencing is normal as this happens on mine too.

Yea pedal is firm, however when stuck in traffic, braking.......the pedal goes down and down very slow and sits on the floor,

My only thought is......

1. Have I a serious leak

2. Would this be because I have wound the rear calipers in, and it take a while for them to wind back out?

3. The rear were HARD to wind in, could I have over wound them?

I wouldn't say you have a leak, possibly fluid passing the seals on the master cylinder? Just ensure your fluid level does not drop in the reservoir.

Been looking for leaks cant seen an drips or fluid on the floor

Fluid passing the seals << where is this?

Seals are in the master cylinder it's self. New master cylinder needed id say

Did you have the cap off the fluid reservoir before winding the piston back?

I also pumped a checked each ones I did them.......due to how worn they were I did have some overflow

Mine did this for a short time after having my full S3 setup fitted but sorted itself out.

Its normal, was really bad on the Mk4.

If you did the work on your driveway and if it involved rear calipers then you probably have air in the system.

Book it in for a fluid change at VW. £50 fixed fee inc vat and it will be superb, one of the single best things you can do on stock brakes to refresh your pedal

Its impossible to over retract the rear pistons, once it hits the stops it just rotates around a circlip.

Thank you for all the info.

I did do it all myself. One corner at a time. I did also pump the pedal aft each one to ensure it was good. The rears took some seriously leverage to wind back.......!!

Silly question I know, but HOW would I have got air in the system when I have not released any of the pipes/hoses? Sorr if this seems silly question.

This x10, had mine done today at VW, complete fluid change for £50... nice firm pedal again and fades a lot less than before too... :happy2:  Can't be assed doing it myself on the drive for that.. plus stamp in book.

Thanks all.

Driviing back today I noticed some SERIOUS heat off he driver side rear. If was like I had been driving with the break on. Slowly moving off I can feel a slight bite on this side.  Thought it maybe jut down t new pads.......

Is the calipers f***ked? Happened twice?
