It seems you got off lightly with the 2 week ban! Ouch on the penalty fee though

Liking the thread and give me your wheels! I want some Mercedes Multispokes or Speedlines

Saw this yesterday at the nem meet in battersea I was in the silver golf R n with the White S3 parked next to ya cars mint mate not a swirl in sight

Thank you very much  :happy2:, yours and the S3 were looking good as well, I very nearly bought a white S3 a while back.

Yeah was very lucky with the ban and £415 is nothing really, could have been far worse and my insurance didn't even go up on last years  :jumpmove:.

UPDATE:

The 'whooshing sound' that I had ended last night with a large bang under full load in 3rd and the car now sounds like a tractor  :sad1:

Haha nah the turbo is OK (although actuator needs replacing) I think the manifold or something in the first part of the exhaust had cracked/ come off/ broken in some way.

I'm thinking about just replacing everything from the cat upwards and getting it remapped again as the whole area is a bit f*cked with the actuator and now this might as well just do it all at once and go stage 2.

Haha, I did seriously consider my options stage 2+ K03/ K04/ S3 conversion etc.. But tbh its a bit too much money and also I have no self control and will just get banned again trying to race everything .

I think just fixing it and mapping should get me to about 270ishbhp and 300lb/f so shouldn't need a new clutch and still plenty of power. Then spend that money on doing 2-3 track days a year.

So today she was picked up by the RAC for free because I had to leave my car at a 'friends house'   :jumpmove: little tip dont register your account at your own house.

So she's going to Stealth Racing in Southam to be fixed and probably going to strap on a K04, question is how much power can I really put through my 10 year old 110k mile AXX lump and how long will it last?

Sorry to know that your GTI has mechanical problems, but it's good to know that you'll upgrade the turbo.

I hope you have it back running well soon. :drinking:

If you put a BBT K03 hyrbid on with HPFP or a K04 you will be fine up to around 330-340bhp to be honest. If you get it mapped at Niki he'll keep everything safe.
Low comp pistons wouldn't hurt.

Hopefully not to much damage has been done, as a fellow AXX owner i will be watching this closely.

Thanks for the support guys  :happy2:

@patpong_pete not sure yet mate, they should be opening her up early next week and once the damage is assessed we'll go from there. Just trying to weigh up my options in advance ATM.

So the prognosis is that the downpipe blew off and damaged a couple of bits on the way, nothing too bad though. The turbo was also on its last legs already so might as well get it all done at the same time.

Current plan is:

3" downpipe to join to my current sports cat and custom cat-back system
Beach buggy hybrid K03 turbo
Fit Newsouth boost gauge
Loba HPFP
Forge Twintercooler
Remap to run about 300BHP and 300LB/F reliably and hopefully the clutch will last a while because I'm out of cash  :rolleye:

Then maybe later injectors and clutch to push the Max out of the turbo (and probably engine).

Probably going to be off the road for 4-6 weeks depending on how long the parts take so going to be a bit of a wait  :sad1: however gives me some time to scrape some pennies together.

I like your plan. :happy2:

Just curious to know why you decided to go with Forge's Twintercooler.

I've read Niki from R-Tech saying that the best K03 option is the alloy OEM core from a S3, so that you can maintain the punchy boost sub 3200 rpm. I know you'll get an hybrid K03, but maybe for that power you'll be better off with the S3 intercooler with alloy ends.

I hope you can have it back soon too. :drinking:

Not even sure if you need an upgraded HPFP to run that power?
