Mk5 General Area / Mot nightmare of the decade...
« Last post by Lightynolikey on October 16, 2025, 10:40:24 am »
Hi,
I did all the mot work and took it back.
There were no dashboard lamps on previously,  but to do the work the battery was disconnected.
So when it went back there were new dashboard warning lights Mr.motman was furious.
Anyway I spent a fortune so far, the car won't be sold on ever, just need the lamps out.
Are the dashboard fault lamps LED or other?
Does the dual section need to be removed?
Is there a fuse that can be pulled?
(Before denigrating this the car drives fine and will be scrapped in the near future)!!!
Pps is there a definitive way of deciding whether the steering angle sensors are in rack
Or column pls?

Hi people
Have a read of this recent Evo magazine article on the Mk 5 Gti.
In it, it quotes the Mk5 GTi as being worth £8000 upwards - really?!

What’s the low pressure feed pipe to the HPFP look like? This caused me no end of fuel pressure issues, it’s worth trying for £20

I tried with another working pump without any change still same issues.
Got only P1063 fault code no check engine light which is strange.
I can't go above 3000 rpm.(kind of limp mode)
Live data showing:
Rail pressure 6 bar (lower side)
Target value 50 bar and actual only 6.4 bar (high pressure side)
Tried another pump, sensor, replaced filter nothing helps. What voltage should be in the pressure regulator connector??? It shows me 4.5 v but according to some sources on the internet it should be 12v. Maybe you remember when you worked on your car what voltage was shown to you in the two-pin connector above the high pressure pump???
Running out of ideas 😞

I'd go into VCDS just to look through all the options there and make sure it's coded according to your specs.

Well the hpfp fixed all my issues, car ran fine for another 7k miles, sold it 2 weeks ago as sills were rotten amongst other issues!
If you are experiencing similar symptoms to mine then give the hpfp a try

Been round an ex-work colleague's place today to change the oil and fuel filters.

Normally I just remove the top lid off the fuel filter and swap the filter but he insisted we remove the whole filter housing so we can drain any water out and clean it out.

Ok fair play I thought... However when it came to leave the car conked out and was just cranking with low fuel pressure fault codes.

We messed around trying to get it to start, ended up 'giving it a sniff' of brake cleaner up the intake which it then fired up into life.

I left on my merry way and struggled to get out of his estate. Pulled into a side road, glow plug light flashing, no power.

Ended up being the fact we'd put 2 of the 4 or 5 fuel pipes that they have in the wrong place on the filter!! Swapped the 2 hoses around, cleared the codes and it started up and ran fine. Doh!
