Title: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware. ***New Links & Firmware*** 19/02/12
Post by: vRS Carl on January 12, 2011, 08:39:37 am
Usual disclaimer before i start.

NEITHER I NOR MK5GOLFGTI.CO.UK WILL BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU UNDERTAKE THE PROCESS DETAILED BELOW AND SOMETHING GOES WRONG. YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK

I have seen a few times recently that people are asking how to upgrade firmware. So here is a quick tutorial on what to do.

Firstly you need to download the firmware.

Here are some links (i will update these periodically as and when needed however i will only put in here reliable firmware that works and not Beta's etc)

276X Firmware (For all A/B/C Units)

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/zusl6pzjj)

130X Firmware - newer than 276X however does not support Voice Control (for all A/B/C Units)

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/cla24475w)

381X Firmware (latest for all A/B/C Units)

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/gbtlf3s2i)

There is a later 398X firmware but as it only works on B units and higher i haven't listed it.

For those who may suffer battery drain the 100% working Can-Gateway you need is L Revision however a lot of K Revision ones will not suffer battery drain either. I haven't been able to tie this down to month of manufacture (of the gateway not the car). If you are unsure i haven't seen a Car older than June 2007 with an L Revision gateway. If someone has one older please let me know so i can update. But If your car was registered in June 2007 onwards you *should* have an L Revision gateway or higher.

Old Can-Gateway fix (this works in about 95% of cases) This will only update the VUCI part of the RNS to stop battery drain. Works with firmware 1200 onwards

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/a523wbwxf)

All the above Firmware will leave the Maps and HDD data intact.

So that's the firmware sorted. All you have to do is download the file. Open the .Rar file and when it extracts you will be left with a .NRG file. Burn this file to disc ensuring you create a disc from the image and not a data disc. Best programs to use are Windows - Nero or IMGBurn and Mac - Toast. If you have any of those installed right click on the .NRG, select open with and then click the burning program. This will put it all ready for you to put a disc in and burn away.

Now some people will say use DVD, some will say Use CD. It really does depend on how fussy your drive is. I have done this for a few cars that will only accept DVD and some that will only accept CD. Most will be happy with either. The things to remember are.

Where possible use a decent disc - Verbatim, TDK, Sony etc.
Burn the disc as slow as possible - Usually 2x speed
Ensure you verify the disc afterwards
DVD+R/DVD-R & CD-R are fine don't use RW discs as most RNS i have seen are fussy about them.

So you now have your Firmware disc. Now it's time to update. Please follow the instructions below to ensure it runs smoothly.

1 - Get in the car and turn on the nav - DO NOT PUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION
2 - Insert the disc into the Nav.
3 - It will cycle through a few checks and then you will be presented with a screen that tells you about the software and asks you to press OK or Cancel. Press OK. You will then get another screen saying the firmware will be updated are you sure. Select OK again. This process can take around 2-3mins.
4 - The nav will now update. It takes around 50 mins but afterwards you should be presented with this screen
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fww275%2FTaufe%2FIMG_0008.jpg&hash=977e54ca8e754117de62483bfbc18fed08e9e2ce)

Voila all done.

Pointers/Tips

If you get a message referring to Invalid Clamp state - Remove the disc, change the clock on the dash from 12h to 24hr (or vice versa) Press Setup, i and Eject and then try again.

Few other tools.

If you are having problems updating the maps, deleting MP3's etc then below are some tools that can help. (ENSURE YOU HAVE A MAP DISC AND MEANS TO LOAD MP3'S AS THE DATA WILL BE DELETED)

Map Partition erase (will delete the maps but leave MP3's intact)

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/r3hm8b8rc)

HDD Format (Delete's everything)

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/8t5ap4f41)

SWL Recovery disc. If you get Gateway error 202 or other problems and you can not boot up run this disc and it will restore the Nav. It's based on latest 398x software but can be used to recover RNS-510 running any software version. It will try to restore basic coding (including TestMode) and finish SWL. It will not work if the Nav is completely fooked.

To use - insert the disc, press Setup, i and Eject and it will work away.

 Click Me  (http://depositfiles.com/files/baen7tr7p)

A few other points.

I will only upload here firmware that i know 100% to be working. In that i have tested it myself or have done it for other people. If other later firmware comes out that i haven't tested i will put a new thread up in the forum and point out that i haven't used it (as i have done with 380X firmware)

I do not modify the firmware myself. Credit and a big thanks to Josi over on VWNavi for doing so. All the links provided in this guide are his software  :notworthy:

Comments good/bad welcome and any queries feel free to ask/pm me :happy2:

Edit - The link to Josi thread on VWNavi is here

http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/13672-Unofficial-272x-software-and-SWL-recovery-CD

Part of the reason i made this post is because you need to register on VWNavi to see it. So it saves people having to register just to download a firmware update.

Might be nice to link to the original post?

Other than that, it's how I updated my firmware. As above, use quality discs. I only ever use Verbatim.

For the firmware, have personally found CD+/-Rs to be fine, but for the map delete, I needed to use a DVD+/-R for it to work. I'm not sure if this is because the maps disc is normally a DVD.

Great Post, very informative.

I do have a question for you though,  I'm currently looking to buy a RNS510 and as my car is a Jan 07 I've been looking at version B units,  Could I have a version C and use the firmware you mentioned above without having to worry about upgrading the CAN gateway?

"Firmware that can solve battery drain (this works in about 95% of cases)

Title: Re: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware.
Post by: vRS Carl on January 13, 2011, 04:00:05 pm
Yes you could do.

Just be aware you may still get battery drain in which case you will then have to upgrade the gateway :happy2:

Nice one, with my car being on the cusp of the L version gateway it might be worth a punt.

do you know whats different between this firmware and the 130X/276X firmware?
Title: Re: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware.
Post by: vRS Carl on January 13, 2011, 04:18:16 pm
It has the VUCI File from 1200 which is the last firmware not to cause battery drain.

excellent,  I think I'll risk a version C with that firmware. :)

I've got an RNS 510 LED version on it's way, firmware is 2660, take it that 276X link is the best one to use?

Is there a changelog of the firmwares anywhere? As i'd like to see any differences between say, 2660 - the latest version etc :)
Title: Re: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware.
Post by: vRS Carl on February 20, 2011, 09:45:11 pm
I did a list of firmwares in another thread (which I can't seem to find) but 2660 is a Beta firmware so I would change to 2760.

Between 266X & 276X the main fixes where proper support for Voice control and 32gb SDHC, speed improvements and attempts to combat Regensburg syndrome (nav starting in Germany all the time)

Basically the firmwares from 266X onwards are

266X
268X
272X
276X
130X ( same as 276X but no voice control)

So in short update to 2760 :happy2:

this is really helpful!

I have just loaded on the http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VD5REKW1, so hopefully I won't have a flat battery again in the morning.

Do you know how to tell if the batter drain issue is resolved, other than just waiting?

Should the unit take longer to boot up when first turned on after being off for a certain amount of time?

Unfortunately the key press unlock was removed from 268X onwards. It now has to be programmed in using special software. This can't (at the moment at least) be done any other way than connecting a laptop to the car. The only person i know on here who can do it is Darren (MortyGTTDi)

It will take longer to start up if it has been left for a few days (mine always does)

seems that the new firmware has sorted the problem, the vw screen is appearing after i have left the car for a couple of hours. I didn't have a flat battery this morning either.

Great tutorial as it has saved me the hassle and money of buying a newer can gateway, many many thanks!

Hi All,

I'm new to here, and trying to get my head round the RNS510 and it's capabilities!!!

I have a version b (1T0035680B), and I have managed to update the maps from 6835 to  7388 on hardware version H11, Software version 1200.

At the moment, if I press the button at the top right I get a message saying 'The guidance system is inactive'

Also, if I try to get the DVD in motion over-ride to work (top right button then setup) it works, but after about 5 seconds the setup screen comes on. If I press cancel, it comes up with the message to say the vehicle is in motion and the screen won't work...

A few questions:

1) Does anyone know what firmware this unit will take?
2) How do I get the guidance system to be active?
3) is the dvd issue a fault or is there a work around?
4) can ther  video in motion be activated with Vag-Com?

I have the proper RossTech Vag Com sso I can alter whatever is necessary...

Any advice / assistance would be greatly appreciated...

ps.. anyone in east yorkshire - vag com services available FOC - pm for assitance!

Thanks in advance!

That button can be used to speak the last instructions. If you've not programmed your satnav, then it doesn't have any instructions! Set it up to go on a journey and then press the button at various points and you'll see what it says.
2) How do I get the guidance system to be active?
Program it! Tell it to go somewhere!

4) can ther  video in motion be activated with Vag-Com?
No but I think mortygttdi has a tool to fool the unit into thinking the "safe speed" is higher so it doesn't cut out.

Hi guys - I've tried following the instructions on this post to the best of my ability but with no luck :-(

So far I've tried using Verbatim and Memorex discs, burning the NRG file using as a Live File System format and as a Mastered format at the automatic speed and at the lowest speed option x10.... however when I come to install the new firmware in my system the discs appear to be "loaded" successfully but the nothing happens... ie the disc just sits in the system but nothing more.

Do I need to have the multiplayer empty.... have the system on a certain function e.g. set-up.... or have I missed something obvious?

Have you tried rebooting the system using < > and i buttons? Kind of like Ctrl-Alt-Del for the RNS510!

Your burning the file wrong.

You create a disc from the NRG file. To ensure it burns correctly right click the NRG file select open with and choose your burning program. Then just burn it at the slowest speed and ensure you verify the disc.

It should then work fine.  :happy2:

AAAAGRRHH....

It was all looking good until 42% complete... and then diaster... the it got as far as 2% updated on the HDD and the screen went black and the CD was ejected.... tried this 3 times and got that far each time.... now I have a knackered system which is unuseable and no means to fix it... any ideas?

Is it possible to have an RNS 510 without an HDD?  I have checked in the past and it's capacity read 0GB used and 0GB available....

Any help from anyone please :scared:
Title: Re: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware.
Post by: vRS Carl on May 02, 2011, 07:50:19 pm
Erm it should show a capacity of X used of about 20gb as 10gb is reserved for the mapping.

I would think that the HDD is corrupt as I'm not sure the device can run without it.
Title: Re: Tutorial - How to Update RNS-510 Firmware.
Post by: chris s on May 02, 2011, 08:00:49 pm
Oh bugger... it was odd as the system worked fine (except for a small glitch when changing in CD in the multi changer and it stuck on "CD/DVD loading please wait")....

The HDD capacity showed as 0 before I tried upgrading the firmware...

I do have it booked in at the VW stealers tomorrow... should I just leave it?

I'm away at the moment so will update the thread if needs be when i get back.

397X is the latest out there but from everything i have read it is still a beta. Some people have it working with V7 maps, some have difficulty searching for the normal POI's. Some have it working with modified maps and some don't. So i will probably keep the 397X to a seperate thread so that there is no confusion over it being a beta.

Also it will only work on B & C revision units.

Post by: alexperkins on May 28, 2011, 09:24:59 am
397x is a very stable firmware for a beta release, but for POIs to work, you need to use an unmodified 7388 disc and import the Speed Cameras etc via Personal POIs on your SD Card.

Just fitted a version C to my March 2007 and not noticed anything so far.....

It will appear after about 2-3 days of the car being static. Then after that it will happen quite often.

However i had a Mar 2007 car previously and i never suffered battery drain. It depends on when your car was built and if it is a MY2007 car or a MY2006 that was just registered in Mar 2007. Hopefully you will be lucky and it will be fine  :happy2:

My March 07 built Jetta (K gateway) has been fine too.

One thing I did find that while the modified firmware didn't cause battery drain on my Mk5 (with ver E gateway) it won't work with the Rear Camera so updated it to a AD and all it good  :happy2:

I meant to add my update to this post... The local VW dealer (Benfiled Newcastle) did me proud in the end... on the last day of warranty they gave me a new Sat Nav unit, replaced a couple of faulty units with the Immobiliser and a few other minor points...

Regarding the Sat Nav... they told me the HDD was corrupt hence why it appeared to have 0 memory and why the only means of using the Nav was to have the NAv disc permenantly in the player... anyway all is good now... I appear to have a working unit... my only small gripe is that I can only still use memory cards with a maximum of 2GB... I've decided that I will not mess with the firmware anymore and just get on with driving the car...

Lesson Learnt  :happy2:

Hi all,
My first post :-)

I've got a Sept 2007 GT Sport Tdi 170 that was fitted with a rnc310.

I've since fitted a rns510B firmware 1120, v7 maps. No battery issue.

I really want 6 digit postcode search and so I have upgraded sw to josi 2270 battery drain fix.

My first question is, how can I tell if I will suffer from the battery drainproblem or not?

Second question is, would I be better off installing sw 1300 instead and are there any issues downgrading firmware?

All the best

On a Sept 07 car you shouldn't have any issues  :happy2:

As Steve says a Sept 07 Car will be fine as it will have at least an L revision gateway if not higher.

1300 firmware is higher/newer than 2720. It is the same as 2800 except for no voice control. But unless you have Bluetooth and have wired up the mic accordingly you wont have that so won't need it so fill your boots and install away :happy2:

Thanks for your replies chaps!

In the end I installed the Josi 2270 firmware (just to be safe) and Western Europe Maps V 7333 - I assume this is the latest, but the maps are still quite out of date, as it doesn't show an extension to our housing estate that is over two years old at least?

The only thing I need to do (possibly) is get the local dealer to activate the stereo steering wheel access via the VAG-comm, so I can access volume from the steering wheel stick?

I don't need voice, bluetooth etc- too expensive a luxury to be hands free :(

Cheers

John

Thanks Carl,

Just upgraded to 1300 firmware and now all working. If anyone wants the disk (burnt on a DVD at 2x speed and proven working) just let me know and I will happily post it for the cost of a stamp and an envelope. Note I am NOT offering maps or anything else which would be naughty - just the firmware I used so that it cuts out the download/burn stages of the process.

For info, if you sit and watch the process you will probably crap yourself. The unit will do all sorts of mad on's/off's and when the gateway is updated, it will buzz and pop through the speakers as power cycles happen etc.

My advise? Don't watch it.

Also, I have never seen anywhere what happens if you open doors/close doors or mess around with the car during the process. I got in and out of the car a few times, but I never shut the door fully, because I didn't know either way. If anyone can clarify that kind of thing and add it to the main post it might help some out.... It's obvious, but for thos ewho don't know it might save a person from bricking maybe?

Thanks
Matt

Hi Guys

Hopefully someone can help me on this one. Recently purchased an 08 plate Passat with an RNS-510. I believe it was an aftermarket installation.
The problem I'm having is that when I put a route in, it tells me that it's "downloading new route" and the "direction is in the route indicated" or something along those lines. I want it to talk to me along the way to tell me where to go. I've been told there may be a bug in the system as the previous owner had a lot of downloaded music which may have put a bug in the system. I have no original firmware/map disc. My questions are...

1. Could this be the case?
2. Will this firmare upgrade fix it?
3. Would it be better to format the HDD first (bearing in mind I have no original CD)
4. I dont know what model/serial number etc of RNS-510 it is, so - is there a way of finding out without having to take the thing out and will version 2720 work on it either way.

What do I need to look out for?

Thanks

At the moment, if I press the button at the top right I get a message saying 'The guidance system is inactive'

2nd solution does not solve my problem!

Please give me an practical advice please...

I HAD THIS VOICE GUIDANCE BEFORE I UPDATED MY ??? (UNKNOWN) VERSION OF RNS 510.

Delivery part number: 3T0035680B

HW-Version: H03
SW Version: 3814

1. How can I activate “guidance system”???
(now it is saying that “guidance system is inactive” when i press the button in upper right corner… :( )

2. Where to programm RNS510 on my voice commands??? Before any flashing I had 10 config submenus in Setup menu, and now I have 9… I have Samsung Galaxy S2 connected and working over Bluetooth…

3. Which version has to be used (I already tryed 2660-4,2720-4,2760-4,3810-4,3970-4,3980-4) and my RNS510 is with bluetooth and is built in Skoda Octavia 2009.

4. Can I activate TV even if I don’t see it in Media menu???

thanks!
Peter

hello can anyone help please,

i have a RNS510 1t0 035 680 B, a few weeks ago it started shutting down and starting back up randomly, when it is shut down you can still hear noise coming from inside.

when it started happening more frequent i deleted the firmware and tried reinstalling a few different firmware versions, but due to it shutting down so much during the install it wouldn't go past at most 65%

after doing this so many times it now will not go past the welcome to volkswagon screen and it still shuts down!

can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? my reading of forums leaves me to believe it is the mainboard. does anyone know of anywhere i can get it repaired to?

your help very much appreciated, many thanks

I thought it needed a HU higher than C?

No it's only A that it won't work with. There are a few people with B Units running it fine but as with any firmware there is a risk. There is also a risk with the 398x as it is a Beta. But i'm running it fine although my unit is the equivalent of a D

Should be fine to use the 3810 firmware. I used the modified version for A, B and C units for my B unit. Quicker start up and different loading screen. Maps have slightly different colours for routes and icons but I found the interface to be more laggy than previous when touching it.

It will wipe maps so you need to make sure you have the updated maps disc.

You need VCDS to switch the colour themes but otherwise the menu colours are the same. As I said, it's the map route colours that are slightly different.

Open up VCDS, go into the Navigation controller. Click on the Long Coding Helper button. Move through the bytes until you get to byte 7. You can select between Highline, Premium and Sportsline. Make a change and save it. Then reboot the RNS using the <, >, and i buttons.

I changed mine to Premium because I preferred the more subtle look.

You're talking about converting pdc to ops. Google search for pdc ops rns. There are a couple of websites that show what you need to do. You need to upgrade the sensors and do some wiring and myabe upgrade the parking controller.

Sort of, from inception the firmware it went in order

1000
1020
0900
1100
1120
1160
1200
2660
2680
2720
2760
2800
1300
2840
3800
3810
3870
3910
3970
3980
4000
4020 - Latest available

Some of the firmwares haven't been widely available and some are very similar example being 1300 is the same as 2800 but doesn't have support for voice control.

I've seen 4020 somewhere else, with VideoInMotion built in, is this standard now?

Thoughts?

do you have European POI databas?

Mine doesn't have EU POI's but i can certainly make one to work.

I would suggest first of all doing a soft reset of the unit by pressing these 3 buttons as they aren't always shown until you do. I had to this after the first time i installed them.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.briskoda.net%2Fforums%2Fuploads%2F4%2F3%2F5%2F3%2F24281.attach&hash=4be2a847ef1bd94350dc933afa191d9495818ac2)

If that doesn't work then i suggest rebuilding the .DB3 file and ensure you are using the correct POI format. For the RNS they have to be .asc files.

Yes. Works fine from SD card for me (although i am on 4020)
do you have European POI databas?

Mine doesn't have EU POI's but i can certainly make one to work.

I would suggest first of all doing a soft reset of the unit by pressing these 3 buttons as they aren't always shown until you do. I had to this after the first time i installed them.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.briskoda.net%2Fforums%2Fuploads%2F4%2F3%2F5%2F3%2F24281.attach&hash=4be2a847ef1bd94350dc933afa191d9495818ac2)

thank you so much for your answer,
i just did the reset, but unfortunatly it didn't sovle the issue,
do you have or can you makbe rebuild a new Databas please?

Have you got the SD Card setup correctly?

Ensure the PersonalPOI folder is in the root of the card.

i.e. follow this

Your POI's should now be displayed (as long as you are near one) :happy2:

Have you got the SD Card setup correctly?

Ensure the PersonalPOI folder is in the root of the card.

i.e. follow this

  • Format the card in FAT 32
  • Make a folder on the card called "PersonalPOI" (cut and paste between the quotes for the name as if it is not exact it won't work)
  • Move the .db3 file into that folder
  • Remove the SD card and place it in the Nav
  • Press Setup
  • In the setup menu select Navigation
  • You should now be able to select My points of Interest
  • Select import
  • Select import database
  • Once complete (5-10secs) select OK and remove SD Card
  • Soft reset the RNS as per the pic above
  • Now press "MAP" button
  • Select extras at the bottom of the screen
  • Select POI Selection
  • Your POI Categories will be at the end of the list
  • Select the ones you want displaying
  • Press ok once finished
  • Do one more soft reset to give it a kick up the hoop

Your POI's should now be displayed (as long as you are near one) :happy2:
thank you so much for the answer,
i tried those steps but basically my RNS doesn't recognise the SD card has the POI of interss,
the folder on the Root called PersonalPOI and  the Databas called PersonalPOI.db3

i am on 3810 FW and hear its read differet datbas formate?
the POI datbas i have is the one from the map 7692, i didnt create it
the map i am using is 7690,
probably this the problem?

That's the problem as its the POI from the disc.

You need to use POI inspector and make a database file.

I have just updated my rns510 to 3810. Think it's probably wiped my hard drive, as the unit boots up fine, plays radio/music from an SD card, but asks for my navigation disc. Problem is, it doesn't seem to recognise the hard drive any more - I can't copy music from the SD to the hard drive as it is greyed out in the media screen...

Any ideas, please?

I solved this in the end - just in case someone has the same problem, I copied music from a DVD (that was the only thing that worked), and from there it allowed me to select the HDD.

You go to the dealer and buy the disc. Any other method is illegal and cannot/should not be discussed on here.

I have a 1T0 035 680 B that was delivered with H03 SW 0900. Earlier today i installed the 2760 sw and now it looks like this:

From what i read this should work fine to upgrade to 3810? with 3810a_noru version of firmware?

The question is, can i after i have installed the 3810 firmware install the 4020 firmware on this one?

I have V8 map.

This looks fine maybe? http://gpsunderground.com/forum/volkswagen-seat-skoda/15903-firmware-rns-510-4020-4026-4028-4024-later-versions.html

Modified version for A and all later versions..

Hello, I'm new to the VW world.  I have a RNS510 and I'm not sure as to what version it is (A, B, C?) nor do I know what version firmware it is running.  Can I just burn the firmware update (I think it's 3680) and put the cd and run the update?  The instructions on this thread don't say if there is a sequence of updating the old firmware to the new one in order.

Also, do I need to do any coding myself as in VAG-COM etc?  Thanks so much, so far, my 2009 Passat is amazing to drive.

You generally can't go from a 1xxx firmware to higher than 268x firmware. You can go from 268x to 38xx or higher.

You don't need to do anything with VCDS as none of the coding is changed (assuming it is correct in the first place).

You can find out your firmware if the test menu is enabled. Press and hold setup for around 30secs and you will get to the developer test menu. In there you will find the part no, sw version and map version info.

If it's not enabled you can use VCDS to enable it. Go into block 37 ---> Adaptation -----> channel 50 and enable developer test menu. Save it and do a soft reset of the Nav and it will be available.

If you have upgraded to 3810 then yes in theory however you may find some bugs due to it being older hardware.

Hi All,

A couple of questions :

With my current maps and firmware, I can only seem to enter the first half of a postcode, then I have to enter the street name from a list, half of the time the correct street aint there.

In order to be able to input the WHOLE post code, is it a firmware update I need or a map update?

I have already downloaded the latest map update ready to install on a duel layer DVD, is a firmware update also needed or not?

Is it possible to somehow back up all of my saved destinations from my RNS510 onto an SD card? if so how?

Thanks for your help here,

Andy.

Hi
I'm new to the forum having just purchased my first golf GTi which I pick up tonight.  Great work on here by the way.....I've spent days looking at posts on here!!  :happy2:

Just one quick question.  I've deciding on fitting the RNS-510 unit once I pick up the car.  Just to confirm is it possible to fit a newer unit (F version) and then upload the firmware to stop battery drain?  Or do I have to buy an older A or B unit?  I have bought a 2005 GTi so am assuming it will suffer from the drain problem.
Apologies if this has already been covered somewhere.

Thanks

Hey ell.s...i too have a B unit...

I have just successfully upgraded to 3810a using a euro modified disc done by an Oz guy from VW Watercooled called Kamold.

FW has been modified to enable Secret Menu, VIM, Also battery drain has been eliminated and its a 3 partition version done for 75% Music, 20% Maps and 5% POI's (Again this version of FW is for EUROPEAN users).

Link to FW available if anyone needs it...PM me

Took about 90 mins in total...seemed to hang a couple of times but i just left it to do it's thing (engine OFF and NO KEYS IN IGNITION) and it was a success.

I then installed V9 Maps edition 7920 and all is copacetic...all on the original 30GB HDD supplied with the nav unit.

MY problem is that is that i cant get the unit to recognise the SSD (kingspec PATA 64GB) that i've been trying to swap with.

I'm now trying to search for tools to check the disks integrity...anyone had issues with SSD installation?

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my 1T0 035 680 B unit from its prehistoric 0800.  It is a 58 plate factory fit unit so I shouldn't have the battery drain issue.  What I'm after is the 7 digit postcode update which from reading this thread means I need to do an upgrade to 2xxx and then on to 3xxx.

Looks like depositfiles have stopped free downloads.

Anyone know if they're available anywhere else?

Thanks!

Then I may be able to assist.

Kamold on here has set up a site with links to a firmware version that WORKS.

Go to http://www.rnsfirmware.com/

Select the modified fw 3810a and download it.

Burn the image to a good quality disc at the slowest speed possible and then feed it to your rns510!

Make sure your ignition is off with keys NOT inserted.

That site above will tell you what this fw will do for you.

All respects and thanks to Kamold.

I have used this and it works well without issue.

If I'm honest I don't know if you have to jump up incrementally as I was on 1120 and went straight to Kams 3810a.

I think I made a recovery cd but don't know it's value yet as I've had no issues.

My ball ache stemmed from the fact that my SSD drive would just NOT get recognised by the unit. Had it in and out at least 10 times over a few days.

Any way, hopefully someone in here can confirm for u that you're ok to jump to 3810a.

Anyone???

Well I gave it a go.  It did upgrade successfully.

On the plus side I get full postcode entry, on the negative my Fiscon Bluetooth is no longer recognised so I guess the coding got trashed by the upgrade

MDI still works but I don't know if that needed coding changes.

Sigh

Yes some firmware upgrades can delete the coding so it's handy if you have or know someone with VCDS.

If you've gone to 38xx above then it will need a recode.

MDI is a seperate controller to RNS.

Well I ran Josi's rescue image against the install and that sorted the coding. So I'm happy; full postcode lookup, rear camera, Bluetooth, MDI all working. v9 maps installed

Sorry for the newbie question, have a long history with VW's & Audi's.

I've just brought a 2003 Touran as a run around and want to fit a RNS-510, I have VAG-COM if needed.

What RNS-510 version should I be looking to purchase and will I need the CANBUS fix or can I do it via Firmware only?

Many thanks

Guys, I desperately need your help. I have been trying to do this for 3 days and its starting to wear me out......
I have a RNS-510 which I believe to be a rev C.
1T0035680C
H04
2760
It matches the stickers on the side (which all look official) and is claimed to have been made on the 24/2/2010

What I would like to do is update to the 3810 firmware ( I have V9 maps already ) but I am using a Macbook Air. Nearly all the links to firmware downloads have expired so if anyone has a reliable link, that would be a great help too.
I'm not a computer/Mac expert so I need a simple step by step guide please........because so far I have failed!

Is the first page not due an update ?

As some are running Firmware 4120 or Higher (5210 Not sure it's stable yet)

As for maps most people seem to be on or talking about running V9 now.

As mentioned above most of the download links are now not working or dead, time for a refresh Please MOD's

nice thread but like Kiwi mentioned a little out of date now.

Hi. Can anyone help ? I just attempted this procedure on my RNS510 in my 2010 Golf R and the unit is now unresponsive. I downloaded the  I loaded the 3810 firmware onto CD, put he CD in and the screen flashed up with some text and immediately went off again (too fast to read, it looked like one line of text with the letters 'SWL' in there) and since then absolutely nothing. Now I cannot switch the unit on, I have tried a reset but again no response at all. When I press the power button I hear a whirring sound (the hard drive ?) for a while and then it stops. Is it possible this procedure can make the unit totally unusable like this ? Or do you think I have a hardware fault (seems too much of a coincidence to me as the unit has been working fine before this) ?

I burned at standard speed onto a CD-R on my PC - never had a problem with doing this for other ISO's before. Can this cause the unit to be totally unresponsive ? I can't even eject the CD now.

Press setup, eject and Mic/info buttons together.

This will force the unit to conduct a hard reset and should allow the disc to be ejected.

Burn the firmware to a DVD -R and do it as slow as possible.

I'm guessing the mic/info button is the star emblem ? Nothing happened. I also tried the voice button on the wheel, same. I have noticed that with ignition off/key out pressing the power button once makes the other control buttons flash red briefly but nothing else happens. Hitting the power button again then initiates some sort of power to the screen (dim light).

Yes the star emblem is the mic/info button. You need to hold the buttons in for about 15 secs.

If your getting some power like that if the above doesn't work hold the eject button then turn it on and see if it forces the eject.

I am guessing that requires the removal of the unit which I have no knowledge of how to do. Would disconnecting the battery or a fuse have the same effect ? If I did that, would I need to have a radio (or equivalent) code for the unit after reconnecting ?

With a 57 plate looks like you might get a battery drain issue, unless the previous owner has changed your canbus. Best thing is to install something like 3810 modified fw, which will prevent battery drain, also will allow you to use bigger sd cards.

A 57 plate shouldn't get Battery Drain as it will have at least an L revision Can and probably an S Revision.

For reference my Last car was a 07 Plate Registered Mar 07 and that came with a K revision that didn't suffer battery drain.

Might sound like a really stupid question :/, but is the RNS-510 head unit made for the MK5 or does it need modifying to fit? And my golf has a parrot kit all installed and setup, would this just plug into the same places as it does already? Or would that need modifying?

Hi guys. Hoping someone out there can help me out.

I've just bought a 2010 Golf with the RNS-510. At present I don't have full postcode search on the sat nav and I am hoping to upgrade the firmware to enable it.

I have downloaded the 381X firmware from the link on the first page. I followed the steps but when I unRAR'd the file I got a .ISO file and not a .NRG file.

I wasn't sure if this was correct or not so I burnt an image of it onto a disc and popped it into my RNS but it didn't like it and spat the disc out.

I'm really keen to get the 7 digit postcode entry sorted and I've also heard that the device is a bit quicker with some of the newer firmwares so I'm really hoping to get it all resolved. There are loads of links to various sites but this post did seem to include the most information and gave a nice step by step run down which was absolutely vital for me.

Hope someone out there can help me out.

Regards
Ricky

Well that was an easy fix. Re burnt the disc at a slower speed once I found out how to do it on the mac and its worked.

Now for the next question. I've downloaded the maps from usenet and have unzipped the files into a folder on my PC.

Now the silly question. How do I get these files onto a DVD. Do I just copy them all across or do I need to do something different.

Nope. It was all in a zip file when I downloaded it. Just unzipped it into a folder.

Guess I need to create an ISO file. May just be easier for me to buy a disc as I'm going to have to get a dual layer disc anyway.

I think I've buggered up my update to my firmware! Please can someone help as my battery drained after updating to the modified 4020 sw from 1120.

I thought you could upgrade straight from 1120 to 4020 and get the revised partition tables to prevent battery drain. I thought this was done as my music sector is now 20gb on a 30gb hard drive!

Maybe something else caused the battery to drain flat!

You'll need 3810 to get the partition tables, then put on 4020 - this is the way I did it with no such issues.

What does your music partition say please?

My one is currently on 20.88 GB.  I think it worked ok.

Just checked my battery after keeping jump leads on the golf for around 35 mins and as soon as I took the cable off, the power dropped from 12.5 volts to 6.

I think its my battery that's not holding its charge

You'll need 3810 to get the partition tables, then put on 4020 - this is the way I did it with no such issues.

Right then.  I've now downgraded back to 3810 and then upgraded back to 4020.  I've also applied the SW 1200 VUCI fix, to ensure no more battery drain occurs.

However, when I tried to recharge my flat battery using my second car it wouldn't start, just clicking that was indicative of a dead battery.  I even left the booster cables attached in this fashion for some 35 minutes, but my battery would not take or hold any charge.

I since discovered that this battery is actually wrong for the car, it was a "Unipart" battery with only 64Ah, when it should've been 72Ah at the very least! When I tested the battery with my multimeter, during the boosting, it was in the lower 12 volts.  As soon as I took off the booster cables, the voltage dropped to 6 volts, further indicating dead cells in the battery.

So, I went out like a mad man and sourced a Bosch Silver 007 battery with the correct amperage.  Well it was 74Ah, but that'll do fine.  As soon as I put the new battery in, the car cranked over perfectly. :happy2:

Now, I can't deduce if it was my possible incorrect SW updates to my RNS 510 that killed the battery, or it was indeed dying.

Now for my next mission.  I downgraded from 4020 to 3810 and then back up to 4020.  I then applied the VUCI fix and I was finally able to apply my personal poi folder with speed cams.

Also, I can now search POI's from my map, which I couldn't do before.  As a number of other users have said, if you have a version A, B unit, then you must update your FW to version 3XXX before updating to version 4XXX or else you won't get the POI's working!

Hi,

Excuse the ignorance but I'm new to the RNS510.

I recently bought the 510 C but I wasn't happy with the 5 digit post code so after finding this topic (brilliant btw) I uploaded the 381X firmware.  I didn't realise that I'd lose my maps and as I haven't got a map CD I need to purchase / borrow one.  My question is what version of of maps is compatible with 381X...I'm hoping I can install v9?

Cheers

HI,
I have RNS510 c SATNAV- with some modified software installed.
it shows sw:3810,- the only problem I have is that is stuck to KM, I want to change it to miles- but there is no such option in menu, and menu colours are changed.

I have already downloaded firmware (sw:3810- stock fw) - installed, and no success- all as before.
How can I restore to original firmware? shall I download higher version?
Thanks

Sorry for the late reply.  4020 is the last update that will be stable for the 'B' revision units, but just as I did you'll have to apply the vuci fix, which comes from the older firmware.  I've done this update to my car and its been running for the past 3 months with no battery issues.  By doing this update, I've got a faster system, 7 digit postcode search, and the latest maps with full POI's and even Speed Cameras.

I have a couple of questions and in need of some info please.

1. I have updated my RNS510 REV H maps to V10 this week including POI's and cams. Everything went fine and is now working. I am currently running SW Version 3970. Is there any point updating to a newer firmware and if so to what?

2. I tried to update the maps on a friends Rev C LED but that just kept spitting the disc out. I also found it does not have the same menu options that mine has. E.G. no menu to allow personal POI's to be loaded. This is currently running SW Version 2840 and believe this is the reason. What version should this be upgraded to to allow V10 maps plus personal POI's and cams?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the latest firmware that can be installed to a rns 510 version c? In the process of reading up about maps etc too. I'd love to have maps with the poi's showing on them, such as petrol stations etc

Any help appreciated

Hi

I am on 'C' and currently running Firmware 4120.
You get 7 digit Post Codes and Radio text such as currently playing song titles, DJ etc

X2 on the above. Just buying a version C.

What software should I load to avoid battery drain?
I've read through this thread but can't pull out a definitive link.

Also need to source the latest maps, if anyone has any info on where I can source it from. A PM would be great.

Thanks

Depends on the age of your vehicle I believe  :happy2:
Late 2007+ you should be fine if not then you may require a Canbus, you can buy these preceded on ebay if required otherwise the main dealers or VW specialists will charge you a few quid  :drinking:

So if i'm reading this correctly, updating the firmware has a good chance of correcting battery drain, but i might still need to change the Canbus Gateway?

Does anyone know the cause of the battery drain? I'd have thought turning the unit off when you exit the car would have worked but something must still be active?

Hi all,

Thanks for this helpful topic.

I've just bought a car with a RNS-510 with a very very dim screen.  As if the backlight isn't working.  The unit functions, there is sound and I can operate the menus.  Infact, it's all working as normal apart from the screen.  I've tried adjusting the brightness but it's as if the backlight is off.

I've downloaded the 2760 firmware and burned to a CD.  I inserted the disc, it rebooted and started the firmware installation - however the screen was still dim.  Would this be the case until the firmware is replaced?  This is my first attempt at a fix - otherwise I'll have to remove the unit and send it off to be repaired.

I've tried to get into the "secret" menu, but all I see is three radio mode options FM, AM and DAB.  As I see DAB in the list, might this suggest the firmware has been upgraded at somepoint?

As anyone else had this issue?  The screen is almost like an "inverse of colour" if that makes any sense?

Many thanks.   :happy2:

Still got the issue bizz, is yours an intermittent issue?

I've replaced the screen but that didn't fix it. Apparently it could be the lcd board.

I've still got the problem with permanently dim screen which is virtually impossible to see during the day and ok at night I've turn the settings on to bright as possible no change also reset the device my rns doesnt seem to have battery drain issues either considering I have a 07 plate ed30 my rns is 1T0035680D hw:H42 sw:3970 2013 unit
any ideas what i can do to sort this out anybody?

Hi,

I installed a columbus rns 510 into vw golf 2006 and today morning my battery was dead. I bought the unit from ebay and the current firmware installed is 4020. Would this problem be fixed if i do the battery drain fix or do i need to downgrade the firmware. And would the maps still be on the unit if i do the battery drain fix.

Hi,

Signed up just to ask a couple of questions as you all seem a very knowledgable bunch.

Holding down setup doesnt appear to bring up the same menu as everyone else to check the firmware and map version.
The only options are FM, Am and DAB, later of which I don't think I even have!

Are these also still the latest firmware versions? Am I just best to start at the lowest one and work my way up or can I just skip to the lastest?

If you don't have the developer menu enabled then you can't access it by the holding of the setup button I'm afraid. Either find someone local to you who can enable it for you (with VCDS) or remove the unit to see what's on the sticker on the top.

Does your unit have a "STAR" button on the top right hand side or a "Speaker - i" button?

So rather old, with the LCD screen.

Best not go any further than 4120 in my opinion, as there's little to be gained by doing so.

Yeah, it's on a 2008 scirocco.

I still need to do plenty reading on it, but it looks like I should atleast do 3810 as this will create some partitions needed. As previously asked do I need to do each one in order?

Nope, you can just go straight to 4120, no need for 3810 as the partitions are also made with 4*** firmware,

Just to double check you do mean 4120. The firmware repositary on this site doesn't have it, and I'm using the first link on google. Which is warning about not to use the 4120 as it may damage older units

I've had a quick browse on forum titles but nothing seems to stand out as being "rules" or do I need my eyes tested?

I'm going to give the firmware update a try this coming weekend - I've bought the 2014 V11 maps off the internet ready, for the Scirocco's RNS510 and the RNS510 in our Tiguan.

I don't know which mode our Tiguan's RNS 510 is though - can't gain access to the information - even by pressing and holding the Setup button.

So I've downloaded firmware 3810 ready to burn to DVD and will give it a try.... Unless someone warns me otherwise?

Hi all newbie to the gang

I wanted to find out if you faced any issues with battery drain after the update. I have a 2006 mk5 1.6FSI  and i haven't yet checked the canbus but ive been reading that theres modified versions to assist with upgrades. Are there any links for updates for maps and modififed firmwares. Ive been on the hunt and i managed to be directed to this page as there was a link for the 4020a update. Been racking my brain over this since i installed the rns into my golf. I cant get access into the software version so im going to take a risk to update it to 2760 then work my way up. Also are there any reasonably priced canbus's which can be programmed on ebay?

But my car use a old can bus (VW 2006), and if I don't use the car... only 1 day... the battery drain

It's possible to resolve/update this?

If you have vcds then you can unlock it in the adaptation section.

Or if you have a Video In Motion disc then it does the menu at the same time.

Yes you can, but preferably you do it with a DVD+R DL. If that works well, why bother passing the maps to a SD card?

I'll send you a PM with the link with the info you requested about upgrading the maps with a SD card.

Morning caps.

New on here but it seems the font of all knowledge for the RNS510!.

I've just obtained one to put in my Aug 2007 Passat Sport TDi 170 (200) to replace the old RCD300. I've recently had an MFD2 in the car which worked fine through my MFD+ on dash.

The RNS510 I obtained is an old one 1TO 035 680A HW: H04 and SW:1000 made 10:12:2007.

I installed it and to start with the screen wouldn't react for putting code in. After disconnection and retry bingo it worked and after putting code in all worked fine except it's asking for map DVD which I don't have............... anyway it doesn't seem to want to connect to the car and won't run off with ignition or link into my MFD+. To me this sounds like the drain issue people talk about as you have to actually switch radio off.

I have downloaded the  SWL fix to see if that helps things first and have also downloaded the 4020A Firmware and also the 1200GW fix for power drain (I think).

Mine has the 'i' symbol top right so how do I go about this?

I assume I switch on but must not have key in ignition and then insert the SWL fix and press Setup 'i' and ejct and wait and see. If all works do I then insert 1200GW drain fix or 4020A firmware update??

Lots of questions but what maps should I be hunting for - I know I may have to pay for them but how up to date can I get on it after doing the above??

Many thanks in anticipation - yes I know it's a Passat but there doesn't seem to be a forum like this for them?? After all I do have 200 hp in a 2.0TDi and 430Nm................

Well it wouldn't take the SWL fix DVD so tried putting in the 4020A DVD and it worked and showed up through the MFD+...................... system re-started and seemed ok. Switched engine on and still seemed ok but didn't switch of radio?? Left it for a while and took key out - switched radio on again and it asked for the SWL disc again and wants to re-load it again!"!!! Why is this?? It also won't accept the battery drain disc 1220GW - what have I done wrong please.....................................

Search online for firmware 5274 modified. It will have the secret menu activated and video-in-motion.

Then search for the West Europe maps from 2015.

Hi all,

I have recently imported Golf Mk6 GTI that that has the below version of the RNS-510 installed:

3C0 035 681 A: Production 05/2008 – 10/2009
HW03, SW0160

My aim is to update it to the latest firmware and install the latest Western Europe maps as the Japanese nav is now no use to me.

I have tried the 276X Firmware (For all A/B/C Units). But this has not worked resulting in SWL error code: (010306)
I used a DVD R, burned on a Mac with Nero at the slowest speed.

I have three questions:

Can SW0160 be updated to 276X Firmware, or is there an earlier firmware version that I need to use?

Can I update to the Western Europe Maps without updating the firmware?

Will I need to format the HDD before installing the Western Europe maps ?

Any help would be appreciated.

I successfully updated to 5274, was using it yesterday, played music via bluetooth etc.

Went to get in today to load the maps and now it is stuck in a boot loop. Anything I can do? I've had a look and it seems I need to send for repair. It's not accessible via VCDS.

I've tried the software cd and the SWL fix but the headunit won't even boot them.

Any thoughts?

So the upgrade went all without any glitch, you used the radio after it was finished and today it doesn't boot?

If the SWL fix CD doesn't work, a reset shouldn't work either. You can try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.

Other than that I can only see that you'd need to find someone with a RNS Commander cable and that knows how to diagnose the radio's problem and replace the motherboard if needed. :sad1:

So today I upgraded the firmware in my RNS510, it didnt have the secret menu when I started but got this from VCDS

Address 37: Navigation (J0506)       Labels: 1T0-035-680.clb
   Part No SW: 1T0 035 680 C    HW: 1T0 035 680 C
   Component: RNS-MID       H41 2720
   Revision: AB001001    Serial number: VWZ6Z7K5219066
   Coding: 040004020400008000
   Shop #: WSC 01357 011 00200
   VCID: AE592AB5F97C594E7F-80FA

I assumed it had firmware 2720 so I have loaded in 3810a but I have read that it should add partitions to the HDD and therefore format it but it hasnt, I still have the maps (which I now know are 7074) and the music I put on it, Free space is about 18.5Gig with about 0.5G of music.

Is that right?

I have downloaded 4120 which I plan to load tomorrow but I dont want to do it if the HDD isnt right.

Hi everyone, ive recently purchased a 2008 Golf Edition 30 it came with a factory rns510 (i believe) and the car also has rear parking sensors from factory. I bought the car from a elderly woman so i know the unit has not been updated so would like to as currently its not accepting a 16GB SD card (reads SD card error), also when using the nav only allows me to enter 4 digit long postcode not a complete postcode!

I heard there is a hidden menu when you hold the setup button but nothing happens when i do this with my unit, so ive opened it up and found the sticker on the top which reads:

1T0 035 680 A
HW: H04
SW: 1000

Radio navigation: 05.01.2008

Can i please have some guidance on what software to download and how to go about it on installing it
Thanks in advance

That information is outdated. The one to use for A and some older B is the modified 5238 firmware. Keep searching the forum that I've mentioned in the forum where to download it from.

With regards to the above small VUCI update file, how is the process like? I just insert the CD (with this burned file) and that's it? Do I need to do anything else or wait for 50mins?

There's no specific RNS-510 for the Japanese market. You can follow the recommendations for all RNS-510. Knowing the revision is essential, but you can find online a modified version of the firmware 5238 that works with all revisions.

I thought only D and newer versions could take 5238?  Seems to be a bit of a grey area.

I've been thinking about upgrading mine too.  How much is the official DVD from VW?

The forum rules don't allow to publicite the forum where you can get a good version. You can search on Google for Josi modified version.

I have a revision B unit running H04 + 1100. Is 3810 as high as I can go or can I go to 4120?

Can I just go straight up to the latest version that I can use or do I have to do several updates working my way up?

I tried to update my RNS 510 recently from FW 4120 (which I think was actually incorrect for my unit) to 5269.
I am getting issues when updating and getting the following screen:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vwwatercooled.com.au%2Fforums%2Fattachments%2Ff78%2F30210d1503766803t-help-rns510-imag1675-jpg&hash=0972b52d6b00b7d3543fb15812dae02b19e2150f)
However when this happens the only thing that will get it out of the cycle is the recovery FW recommended in the 1st post on this thread.

But no disc will work now, even the 4120 one that I used back a few years ago last time it was updated.

My details are:
My part number is 1T0035680D and currently have FW 4120 on it.
I saw on here that my part number equates to HW Vehicle 0xC801, 0xCA01 or 0xCC01
But my problem is on my system info I have a HW vehicle of 0xC201.

Might that be causing any problems?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Don't know what to do next!!

Thanks very much,
N

Just wanted to say thanks to vRS Carl for the original post, my sons 510 in his Scirocco had stopped working just showing the start up screen.

Downloaded the first firm ware update and it's now working again, had a bit of a problem as it couldn't find the SWL image and locked the stereo, but we disconnected it, reconnected and re-inserted disc and is all working again.

So once again, many thanks Carl :happy2:

Hi,
I have a question about repartitioning.
I have HW6276 on my RNS510 and problems with maps. How can I check the partition sizes and is there any software that will repartition to give me more room for the maps? I have seem 6276 updates. Will this repartition?

With that firmware version you don't need to change the size of the SSD partitions. Your problem with maps is elsewhere. I have the 2019 maps installed with no issues, with standard partitions sizes.

Would some please point me in the right direction for updating my stereo, I’ve attached a couple of photos with the firmware and map details currently on it.

Hi, I have been told that as I have one of the older factory installed units v H03, I will not be able to use any format of DVD / CD as my unit is single layer and therefore not large enough to update the maps using any DVD. All of the 2016 onwards map updates are dual layer.  So only way to do so is using the Memory Card slot, but its tricky.  You also a DVD that has a form of boot sequence loaded to know to use the memory card to install the maps.  But I dont know where to get such or whether or not to even attempt.

I would like to get the v2019 maps Western Europe installed.  But only doing the above (Apparently if your RNS has the star button top right the newer DVD will work and can be installed for latest maps) as is state mine is the older type with the speaker and 'i' symbol and cannot be updated using DVD.

Any idea if anybody in here can update mine?  I am on Firmware 4020, already in when I bought car, but maps are from 18th Century...roundabouts not invented, certainly not according to my maps :-)

I'm so glad I found this thread!

I have March 2009 unit, part number 1T0 035 680 C, HW: H04, SW: 2680 (from the label on the unit).

Many years ago I updated the firmware, to which version I can't remember and it's worked fine ever since.

Yesterday I tried to update to 5238 by Josi, the update seemed to go through fine other than I had no sound and the radio stations all saved to the presets as 93.4mhz no matter what station it thought I'd tuned (I had no sound so took for granted the station name that was showed was the station name that should have saved to the preset).  The navigation worked but I literally had no sound at all.

I've tried various different versions today including 4120 and 5218 which both showed a SWL ERROR and finally managed to install 3810 (from the original post on this thread) and the sound has returned.

Could anyone tell me which version(s) will work on my unit and is it actually worth upgrading from 3810?

Many thanks to the original poster for the links and thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question.

Nick.

HELP

Anyone here know how to help me ? My RNS510 won't play any music or radio, the unit and navigation works.
Last time I tried installing the Old Can-Gateway fix (this works in about 95% of cases) which updated the VUCI part of the RNS and it worked after that surprisingly. But I'm not able to get hold of it anymore  :sad1:

Hello!
I have a T5 from 2011 and I've retrofitted RNS510 navi with aftermarket camera. The problem is the safety message which covers the trailer hook. Is it possible to get rid of this message so I can have a full rear image?
Thanks

Hello
I installed 6276 software for RNS 510 1T0035680R version, but there is no sound in the radio. Which software version is best suited for this device? If there is, could you share it with me?
